As part of this project, we invite you to take part in a roundtable discussion on 9 June 2026 (09.30–15.00) entitled ‘Analysis of the implementation of the EU Nitrates Directive (1991–2026): achievements, shortcomings and challenges for Ukraine’. (Analysis of the EU Nitrates Directive implementation (1991–2026): achievements, shortcomings and challenges for Ukraine.)


The aim of the event: to discuss European experience in implementing the Nitrates Directive (91/676/EEC) and to develop a roadmap for its effective implementation in Ukraine; to analyse mechanisms for monitoring water bodies, identifying areas vulnerable to nitrate pollution, promoting best agricultural practices for environmental protection, and developing a circular economy.


Key objectives:

  • Block 1. Legal and institutional: harmonisation of Ukrainian legislation with the EU Nitrates Directive
  • Block 2. Environmental monitoring: the state of nitrate pollution in water
  • Block 3. Agronomic and technological: good agricultural practices and the circular economy
  • Block 4. Social and educational: training change agents and working with communities
  • Block 5. Economic and long-term impact: sustainability, incentives and post-war reconstruction


We invite researchers, PhD students, postgraduate students, undergraduates, lecturers from higher education institutions, representatives of government bodies, local authorities and civil society organisations to take part.

  • opening address — up to 15 minutes;
  • presentation — 8–10 minutes;
  • speech — 5–7 minutes;
